Nestor Girolami joins Wall Racing for Australian World Tour rounds
JAS Motorsport racing driver Nestor Girolami will tackle the final three rounds of the Kumho TCR World Tour aboard a Honda Civic Type R TCR FL5 as the series heads to Australia next weekend.
The Argentinian will join the ultra-successful Wall Racing team at Sydney Motorsports Park on November 3-4 and Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit, Bathurst, a week later; as the World Tour pairs-up with the final two rounds of TCR Australia.
He has also been confirmed on the entry list for the Macau Guia Race, which is the final event of 2023 on the legendary Asian street track.
Last year’s WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup runner-up – has an excellent record in Australia, having won all three races he contested with Wall Racing at the Sandown TCR Australia event in 2019. Nestor will team-up with reigning TCR Australia champion Tony D’Alberto, who will race an FL5 for the first time, and brothers Will and Brad Harris, who will compete in FK7 Civics.
He last competed on the streets of Macau in 2019, when it was part of the WTCR schedule. His team for this year’s event will be confirmed in due course.
Nestor Girolami said: “I’m delighted to announce that I will compete in the final three rounds of the Kumho TCR World Tour. I’m very happy to join Wall Racing and come back to working with a great championship-winning team who helped me to win all three races the last time I competed in Australia in 2019. I’ve never raced at Bathurst or Sydney before, but I have a home sim with a Cube Controls wheel like the one in my Honda Civic Type R TCR so I’ve been practicing a lot to learn the layout and I think we’ll be competitive in each of the last three events.”
Mads Fischer, JAS Motorsport TCR Project Leader, said: “The TCR World Tour is the pinnacle of TCR racing and Bathurst and Macau especially are two of the greatest circuits in the world, so it’s excellent that Nestor will be representing us in the Honda Civic Type R TCR FL5.
A huge thanks to Wall Racing for their co-operation for the Australian events, which we’re very excited about, and to everybody that’s worked together to help us continue the programme.”
David Wall, Wall Racing Team Principal, said: “I’m very happy to have Nestor back with Wall Racing after such a successful outing at Sandown in 2019 when we won all three races. This
is the first time we’ll have had global-level TCR racing in Australia so it’s fantastic to be a part of it with Nestor and JAS Motorsport, alongside our three TCR Australia Civics, including a new FL5 for Tony D’Alberto.”
