Honda Australia and Tony D’Alberto confirm return to TCR Australia
Honda Australia has announced that TCR Australia champion Tony D’Alberto will return to the 2024 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series with continued support from Honda Australia, driving the new Honda Civic Type R FL5 TCR.
To celebrate, 2022 title winner D’Alberto has joined Honda Australia and auto media at The Bend Motorsport Park for an exhilarating drive experience in the all-new Type R FL5.
Honda’s 2024 sponsorship of D’Alberto and Wall Racing marks the fifth consecutive year that Honda has supported the TCR program after debuting in the inaugural TCR Australia Series in 2019.
“Honda has a rich history in motorsport and we are thrilled to continue to support Tony in the driver’s seat of the Honda Civic Type R FL5,” said Carolyn McMahon, Director at Honda Australia.
“Together with Tony and Wall Racing, Honda Australia has had great successes over the years on the racetrack. Our commitment to Tony and the team in 2024 underscores Honda Australia’s association with high-performance cars both on and off the track.”
D’Alberto will compete in the new Honda Civic Type R FL5 that debuted in the penultimate round at Sydney Motorsport Park. The model update over the previous generation features improved suspension, brake and engine cooling performance which took D’Alberto to a dominant pole position, podium result and overall victory in the final round at Mount Panorama last month.
“It’s fantastic to continue with the great support from Honda Australia for the 2024 TCR Australia Series,” said D’Alberto. “We have achieved some amazing results over the journey, including winning the title in 2022 and finishing second on two other occasions.
“The 2024 season is shaping up to be very competitive, as it always is in TCR, so I’m looking forward to getting back into it for the first round at Sandown.”
This year, the TCR World Tour made its way down under for the first time, as part of the nine round Championship. In addition, Wall Racing welcomed Argentinian driver Nestor Girolami, who took the last three rounds of the Kumho TCR World Tour in the Honda Civic Type R FL5 before racing at Sydney Motorsport Park and Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit in Bathurst last month. D’Alberto finished the 2023 TCR Australia Series second overall.
The 2024 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will commence at Sandown International Raceway in Melbourne in early February.
