Supercheap Auto TCR Australia the new Home to Australian Manufacurers’ Championship
The Australian Manufacturers’ Championship returns to Australian Motorsport this year, finding a home in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.
Last awarded in 2015, only one previous winner of the Championship currently holds a place on the TCR Australia grid, providing a strong chance that a new Manufacturers Champion will be crowned at the conclusion of the season.
Having first been awarded in 1971, manufacturers competing in TCR Australia will have the opportunity to etch themselves on to a long and historic list of winners. Previous winners included Holden, Ford, BMW, Nissan, Toyota and Hyundai. With the defending series winner in their line-up, Hyundai will be an early favourite to reclaim the honour.
Points will be awarded throughout the TCR Australia season based on the highest finishing manufacturer in each race. The system ensures brands with single car entries can still compete with the multi-car entries seen from the likes of Honda, Peugeot and Hyundai.
Joining the above-mentioned manufacturers on the grid in 2023 were Lynk & Co, Cupra and Audi.
Manufacturers must apply to be eligible for the Championship through the Motorsport Australia or Shannons SpeedSeries website.
The first round takes place at Sandown Raceway from February 9-11 as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries. All the action will be live and free on the Seven Network.
