Hyundai’s Josh Buchan aiming for TCR title hat- trick with new-look HMO Customer Racing

Hyundai’s Josh Buchan and HMO Customer Racing are primed for a record-breaking third consecutive TCR Australia Championship in 2025.

Buchan will defend his twin titles driving a brand-new “facelift” Hyundai i30 Sedan N TCR that features an updated exterior design and striking new livery inspired by Hyundai’s global motorsport programmes.

The 30-year-old Sydneysider will be joined at HMO Customer Racing by teenage sensation, Ryan MacMillan, who will be making his touring car debut following a dominant victory in the 2024 Australian Formula Open Championship – during his first season of car racing.

MacMillan will pilot the proven front-running i30 N TCR hatchback that Buchan previously drove to multiple race victories on his way to clinching his first TCR Australia title in 2023.

Both drivers are confident they be among the front-runners in the 2025 TCR Australia Championship following a successful pre-season test at One Raceway, near Goulburn in rural NSW late last month.

The 2025 TCR Australia Championship will be run over four rounds, starting at One Raceway on June 27-29 and includes two events – at The Bend Motorsport Park and the iconic Guia street circuit in Macau – against the world’s best touring car drivers as part of the TCR World Tour.

“For me, going into this season, my focus is clearly to defend the title and go for a three-peat, and I’m really excited about the challenge of two rounds with the TCR World Tour at The Bend and Macau,” said Buchan.

If I look back at the previous rounds we had with international competition in 2023, that was the best racing I’ve ever been involved in. We learnt a lot in those two rounds, and I’ve got some unfinished business against the best in the world.

“While the championship will be shorter this year, I actually think there is a lot to look forward to. And, after driving the car again at the test day, I’m excited to get cracking in the new car which looks amazing in its new-look livery.”

“I’m looking forward to the season ahead. The overall goal is to be in the title fight and be up the front, which is definitely possible with HMO Customer Racing behind me,” said MacMillan.

“HMO Customer Racing is a very good team. Of course, with the experience and people with in the organisation, it’s a good community having everyone knowing what their role is in addition to the objectives, which is to go fast and win.

“Josh is a good mentor and with the two championships he has, it’s something to look up to and strive towards.

“The calendar is exciting. I think the first two rounds will be calm, but I know the second two will be exciting with the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour coming over to The Bend, then us going to Macau is pretty awesome.”
