Vale – Garry Rogers
TCR Australia mourns the passing of Garry Rogers, a legend of Australian motorsport and a truly instrumental figure in the establishment and running of the TCR Australia Series.
An accomplished racing driver, successful automotive businessman, celebrated team owner and generous motorsport patron, Garry leaves an immeasurable and enduring legacy from his time in motorsport, which began with his first race behind the wheel of a Holden FX-215 at Calder Park in 1963.
In business and in motorsport, Garry was a respected man of action who personified honourable values of discipline, candour and commitment. His passion for racing fuelled significant, personal investment into the sport, which combined with an admirable desire to give chances to young and deserving talent, provided untold career opportunities for many – on and off the racetrack.
A ‘straight shooter’ who did not shy away from being tough when needed, Garry was equally and universally liked for his down-to-earth approachability, positivity and inimitable sense of fun and humour.
Quite simply, there was no one like Garry Rogers in our sport – and nor will there ever be.
David Sonenscher,
TCR Australia Series Director
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Garry Rogers.
“The TCR Australia Series owes its existence to Garry, for both his commitment to the series as the owner of Australian Racing Group which operated the series from 2019-2024, and for his team Garry Rogers Motorsport fielding as many as seven cars in the series in previous years – in addition to building and running many more cars in other categories of Australian motorsport.
“TCR Australia expresses its deepest sympathies to Garry’s extended family and many friends, and the team at Garry Rogers Motorsport.”
